Cannot Receive Email
The most common cause of not being able to receive mail is incorrect incoming mail settings in your email client. To resolve this issue, there are a number of things to check:
The first thing to do is to verify your incoming (POP) mail server settings in your email client. Cross reference your settings with our instructions for setting up your mail client to verify that everything is correct.
 | If you are on a VDS-1 or other name-based account, you will need to use the username username%yoursitedomain.com when connecting. |
|
If everything appears to be entered correctly, you should try using your IP Address for the incoming mail server instead of mail.yoursitedomain.com. This will help in situations where your internet provider is having temporary problems with their name resolution servers.
If you are receiving an error number, check it with the author of the software you are using (ex. Microsoft.com for Outlook).
If you have any internet security applications running (ex. Norton Internet Security, Zone Alarm, Anti-Spyware) disable them and see if you are able to connect.
As a final step, you can remove the email account in your email client, restart your computer, and then follow our instructions for setting up the account again. This will make sure that all settings in your email client are reset to scratch, but should be used only as a last resort.
Can Receive, but Cannot Send Email
If you are able to receive email but cannot send, most likely your internet provider is blocking access to your outgoing mail server. Most home and small business internet providers are blocking outgoing mail servers, and you will need to contact your internet provider to get the correct outgoing mail server setting to use in your email client software.
If you already have an email account set up with your internet provider, you may also want to try changing the outgoing (SMTP) mailserver on your Webtivations.com mail account in your client software to match the outgoing mail server that you have specified for your internet provider's email account.
If you are unable to send mail and you are using your internet providers outgoing mail server, be sure that any mail filtering or firewall software is disabled, and contact your internet provider for additional assistance.
