- Log Out - Securely closes your connection to the Email Defense Manager
- Help - Opens help documents provided by Postini regarding the use of the spam filter
Each of these areas has a variety of available options which are outlined below.
Junk
Every junk mail message that is caught by the Email Defense filter is listed under the Junk tab so that you can quickly verify that no important email messages were lost by the filter. To release a message for delivery to your mailbox, click the "Deliver" button to the right of the message, or select multiple messages using the checkboxes to the let and click "Deliver Selected". To view the contents of an email message that has been quarantined, click on the subject of the message. To view more information about why the message was blocked, and to request that the message be allowed in the future, click on the "Block Reason" to the right of the message. Messages that are selected for deletion are moved to the "Trash" tab, where they will be automatically purged periodically by the Email Defense system.
Viruses
The Viruses tab works identically to the Junk tab, except only messages that contain viruses will appear here. When viewing a message from the Viruses tab, the virus will be safely disabled so that there is no risk of accidental infection to your computer.
Delivered
The Delivered tab allows you to review messages that have previously been selected for delivery to your mailbox; you can use the Delivery choice in this section to re-deliver a message that was previously quarantined.
Trash
The Trash tab contains messages that have been deleted from the Junk, Viruses, or Delivered tabs. The Email Defense system will periodically purge these deleted messages; no further action is required on your part.
Approve Senders
This shortcut allows you to quickly add users to your list of email senders who will never be blocked from mailing you; additional filtering options are available under the Settings section of the Email Defense Manager.
Settings
The Settings section allows you to customize the spam and virus filtering settings for Email Defense, including managing the lists of allows and denied senders. The Settings area is divided into three sections: Junk Quarantine Settings, Virus Settings, and Personal Settings.
The Adjust Filters link under Junk Quarantine Settings allows you to enable or disable junk mail filtering for your account, and allows you to modify the junk mail filtering level. Drag the slider or use the drop-down box to modify the level of spam filtering that you would like to have applied to your account, then click Save Changes.
The Approve Senders and Block Senders links allow you to modify the lists of email users who are always (or never) allows to send email to you. Enter one email address per line, or enter a domain name in the field provided to block or allow email from all senders at a particular domain.
Under Virus Settings, you can disable virus blocking, as well as update your notification preferences; if you would like to receive an email immediately when a virus message is blocked, select "Immediately" from the drop-down and click Save to apply your selection.
Under Personal Settings, you can use the Add Email Alias link to add an additional email address for protection to your account. This is useful if you have messages from multiple email addresses or aliases being forwarded to your regular mailbox; for example, if your email box is john@yoursitedomain.com but you also receive mail that is forwarded to you from sales@yoursitedomain.com, you can add sales as an alias so that its mail is also forwarded. The Set Language and Time Zone section allows you to customize the formatting of text and dates in your Email Defense Manager to better fit your locale.
